Couldnt let the date pass by without a mention of my favorite show on its anniversary. Check it out if you never have, you'll love it.

I would say that in 1985, Lesh would be drinking heinies, Weir would be clean, Hart might indulge here and there, Kreutzman who knows, Mydland definitely on blow, Garcia would be flying like a frickin kite, I suspect...however, I doubt that they partied as a group...sometimes you go out and play and it feels good and they're on and they're playing in the pocket and fast as was the style in '85, like wearing an onion on your belt...

wow! I seriously did not expect an answer like that, hell, i didn't even expect one. That is so odd to me.. I guess on this night they came together real well eh? I thought that they were a true party crew. Is this a taboo thing to discuss, because I am really curious about it.

to an extent they were like a sports team when they were on the road, but they all did there own thing pretty much all other times, had their own lives and social circles...getting together only when they had to ...as far as the partying, chasing the dragon is not a social activity...remember 83 and 84 and pretty much 85 featured troll Jerry, holing up in his hotel rooms, noodling on the guitar and smoking anything in sight...Weir doesn't have anything to do with the scene, so he just plugs in and plays loud whammy bar licks, Lesh definitely had his beer gut going, Mydland rolled with the tide, like a stoned jellyfish and the drummers were just being fuckin' drummers...

Hah, what the he11 does wearing an onion on your belt mean?I've never heard that one before.

My favorite colloquialism is one from my wife's grandma, "That politician is so crooked, when he dies they'll have to screw him into the ground."

Or my Dad watching Stevie Ray Vaughn during an intense jam leans over and says to me, "He looks like a skunk sucking sh!t through a screen door."

Either one floored me at the time and still make me laugh.

Best show of the 80's is a bold statement, however, it's a fav of mine as well. This is what a first set used to be back in the day.

Okay -- i'm naive about this subject (and in general!) so i have to ask...

what the hell is the band on?! especially jerry. I know he normally plays lead during MnMu and big river, but jesus christ! he's blazing through them with a ferocious energy. cocaine doesn't last -too- long, just like eh -- 20 minutes. I'm skeptical about this energy.. I'm going to have to make a thread in regards to drugs and the 80's.. unless someone can give me some sort of introspect as to how often the band or a band member was on coke or some stimulant?! did they use any other stimulants??? thanks for puttin' up with me ha

This was Garcia on a really really good night my friend, that's all. He was probably doing coke or heroin or god knows what else, but that was likely the case with most shows (the guy was literally a drug-use advocate). He had a gift for perfect timing, and this show proves it.
